Abstract
A field experiment was conducted on cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) during spring
season of 2008 in sandy loam soil at Crop Research Center of Sardar Vallabhbhai
Patel University of Agriculture & Technology, Modipuram, Meerut. The experiment
was aimed to evaluate the effect of date of sowing (15 February, 22 February, 29
February and 7 March) and genotypes (BH-7, LH-1995, BH-23 and Pusa S-2) on the
performance of cotton yield. The experiment was designed as a split plot with 3
replication. The experiment consist of 16 treatment with date of sowing and genotype
combinations. Among different. date of sowing, 29 February was found superior than
the other date of sowing in term of growth, yield and yield attributes and quality
parameters, where as genotype BH-7 produced the highest yield and yield attributes,
which was higher than other genotypes. Objectives of the study were-
1. To asses the most suitable cotton genotype for spring season.
2. To evaluate the suitable time of sowing for spring season cotton crop.
3. To workout the maximum yield from different cotton genotype and date of sowing.
It may be concluded on the basis of experiment finding that the expression of
growth, yield and quality of cotton under the agro-climatic condition of western plain
zone of U.P. can enhanced by 29 February sown crops with BH-7 genotype.
