Abstract
Rice (Oriyza saliva L.) 1s one of the most 1mportant cereal crop of the
country and is a staple food of more than 65 per cent of 1ts populat1on, 11
accounts for about 43 per cent of total food gra1n produclton and 55 per cent
of cereal production in the country contnbutmg 20-22 percent of the
agriculture G.D P (Singh 2009). Yellow stem borer (S incertulas) IS
common in Southeast Asia, China, India, and Afghanistan Yellow
stem borer larvae cause dead hearts and whiteheads Dead
hearts are the dr ed- up central shoots of lillers while whiteheads
are the discolored pamcles with empty or part1ally filled grams
These visible symptoms vary at the plant growth stages at wh1ch
mfestation begin.
An mvestigation was earned out to study the ·seasonal 1nc1dence and

growth stages The yellow stem borer S mcertutas (Walker) was recorded as
maJor pest The •nc•dence of S mcertutas (Walker) was recorded on the f~rst
on third week of July and reached to 1Ls peaks (9 20 per cent wMe ea•) dunng
m•ddle of October when average temperature and relat•ve hum1d1ty were
29 3°C and 78 0 per cent respectively The •nctdence of S incertulas (Walker)
was negative at higher temperature and pos1t1ve correlated with all the other
weather parameters.
