Abstract
The present investigations were undertaken to isolate different strains of Pseudomonas
jlourescens from different agro-ecological zones/crop's rhizosphere. Total eight micro
flora, resembling Pseudomonas jluorescens were isolated.Out of these, only three were
confirmed as P .jluorescens,namely P.f.Ol,P.f.05 and P.f.07. Pseudomonas jluorescens
strains P.f 07 was found most effective with highest antagonistic activity against three
fungal pathogen ie. Fusarium moniliforme, Rhizoctonia so/ani, and Alternaria a/ternata.
Suitability of Mahua and Karanja cakes for mass multiplication and longevity of
Pseudomonasjlourescens in vitro was also tested. In this study, mahua cake.was found to
be best substrate for supporting the population dynamics and longevity of P. jlourescens
in vitro. Both these cakes, supported the population of P. jlourescens up to 120 days.
Highest population of P. jlourescens was noticed on mahua cake after 45 days of
inoculation when maintained with 35% moisture. On karanja cake, highest population of
P. jlourescens was noticed after 45 days of inoculation when maintained with 35%
moisture. Increasing concentration of extract (20%) of both the cakes, resulted in
increasing the population of P. jlourescens. Tomato plants grown in sterilized soil applied
with P. jluorescens grown on mixture of mahua and karanja cakes resulted in highest
recovery of Pseudomonas jlourescens from soil after 60 days of application. Tomato
plants grown in sterilized soil, applied with Pseudomonas jluorescens grown on mixture
of mahua and karanja cakes, resulted in I .5 times increase of root length, 2.0 times
increase in shoot length and 6.5 times increase in fruit yields of tomato as compared to
those tomato plants, which were grown in unsterilized soil, without any amendments. Deoiled
cakes of mahua is comparatively better than de-oiled cakes of karanja for supporting
fast multiplication of Pseudomonas jluorescens, enhancing plant growth, vigor and also
fruit yield
