Abstract
The present study entitled "Effect of floral preservative solutions on post-harvest
quality of rose cv. Grand Gala was conducted during 2012-13 in the Post-harvest Laboratory,
Department of Horticulture, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology,
Meerut, with a view to find out the best pulsing treatment to enhance the vase life and other
quality parameters of cut rose flowers. ·
During the period of investigation, cut flowers were procured from the green house and
made a cut to maintain stem length of 30cm in laboratory. The cut flowers were pulsed with 13
different chemical combinations including control (distilled water) in complete randomize design
with three replications to study the gain or loss in fresh weight and dry weight, flower diameter,
water uptake and vase life.
Based on the result obtained from the study, flower pulsed with salicylic acid 200ppm
and 150ppm found to be the maximum gain in fresh and dry weight of cut roses, respectively.
While, maximum water absorption was recorded with cut flower pulsed with aluminium sulphate
lOOppm. However, the best pulsing treatment was observed with silver nitrate lOOppm with 4%
of sucrose which gave maximum flower diameter and vase life of tOday
