Abstract
Pleurotus species are cultivated in limited scale and contribute only 14.2 per cent of total
annual production of world (Chang, 1999). The present investigation ware carried out on
"Studies on Morphological Characters and Spawn Quality of Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus
. jlabel/atus) ''. The results of present investigation to study the Pleurotus jlabellatus species
in term of cultural, morphology and yield of sporophores. The result showed that the colony
colour of species P. jlabe//atus was observed appresed as white circular and even type
margin.
Among the chemicals. Maximum radial growth of P. jlabel/atus was observed in calcium
carbonate (90.00mm) and maximum radial growth was fow1d in Barley extract agar medium
(90.00 mm) respectively. In sugar solution viz. Fructose, maltose, sucrose, starch and glucose
results revealed that maximum radial growth was found in glucose (90.00mm) in P.
jlabel/atus. For spawn improvement, oat grain was significantly superior to other grain spawn
in P. jlabel/atus. Among all the five sugar mixed substrates, maximum mycelial growth
(90.00 mm) was fow1d in glucose on 15 day. Maximum yield of P. jlabe/latus was recorded
(522.00 g/Kg of dry substrate) recorded at 6% spawn rate experiment. In case of organic
supplement the maximum yield (643 g/Kg dry substrate) and average number of fruiting
body (24.33 per bag) were noticed in pigeon pea flour. For the grain spawn, higher yield of P.
jlabellatus were obtained from oat grain spawn (693.75 g/Kg dry substrate), respectively
