Abstract

In the p~esent investigation "Effect of ginger (Zingiber officina/e) and thyme (Thymus v~lgans) on the growt~ performance of broiler" was studies. In this study 240 day old ch~ck of Co.bb- 400 stra1~ was taken and divided into eight equal groups, each were fe~ d1ffer~nt d1ets. Body we1ght, weekly body weight gain, feed consumption, feed convers1on rat1o (FCR), shank length, keel bone length and hock circumference were measured. The dietary plan of the feeding trial T1, Control (Standard ration); T2, 0.25% Ginger+ 0.25%Thyme; T3, 0.5% Ginger Powder; T4, 1% Ginger Powder; T5, 0.5% Thym~ Powder; T6, 1% Thyme Powder; T7, 0.5% Ginger+ 0.5% Thyme Powder; T8, 1% Gmger + 1% Thyme Powder. Average body weight of day old chicks was 42.2±0.96, 43.64±1.09, 40.5±1.09, 40.2±1.28, 36.2±1.56, 38.0±1.38, 40.8±0.87 and 34.3±1.38 g in T1, T2, T3, T4, Ts, T6, T1, and T8 groups respectively. The average body weight at 6th week of age was found 1972.6 ± 16.12, 2017.7 ± 6.00, 2048.0 ± 5.94, 2052.6 ± 95.12, 1910.7 ± 7.48, 1865.4 ± 5.64, 2324.7 ± 10.66 and 1892.6 ± 2.45 gin T~, Tz, T3 ,T4, T5, T6, T7 and T8 groups respectively. Overall average body weight for all the treatment grouEs was 2013.0 ± 18.68 g during six weeks of age. The average body weight gain up to 6 week of age was found 1933.80 ± 3.59, 1973.83 ± 1.89, 2007.87 ± 39.21, 2012.19 ± 68.25, 1892.57 ± 42.62, 1829.36 ± 120.26, 2283.90 ± 141.16 and 1859.20 ± 45.02 gin T1, T2, T3, T4, Ts, T6, T1 and T8 groups respectively. Overall average body weight gain for all the treatment groups was 19.74.09 ± 57.73 g up to six weeks of age. The average feed consumption up to 61 h week of age was found 3760.08 ± 59.23, 3602.8 ± 33.42, 3655.8 ± 31.39, 3825.8 ± 17.42, 3657.7 ± 44.38, 3630.3 ± 37.26, 3936.7 ± 28.84 and 3606.3 ± 27.43 g in T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7 and T8 groups respectively. Overall average feed consumption for all the treatment groups was 3684.4 ± 34.92 g up to six weeks of age. The average feed conversion ratio up to 6th week of age was found 1.94 ± 0.04, 1.82 ± 0.02, 1.81 ± 0.02, 1.90 ± 0.01, 1.93 ± 0.02, 1.99 ± 0.02, 1.73 ± 0.01 and 1.93 ± 0.01 in T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7 and T8 groups respectively. Overall average feed conversion ratio (FCR) for all the treatment groups was 1.88 ± 0.17 up to six weeks of age. The average shank length at 6th week of age was found 69.8 ± 1.59, 81.7 ± 0.79, 72.8 ± 0.77, 78.3 ± 0.83, 81.9 ± 0.90, 73.1 ± 0.82, 70.6 ± 1.23 and 79.2 ± 1.12 mm in T1. T2, T3, T4, Ts, T6, T1 and T 8 groups respectively. Overall average shank length for all treatment groups was 75.92 ± 1.00 mm during 6 week of age.
