Abstract
The present investigation entitled "Effect of different levels of GA3 and NAA
on growth, flowering and fruiting behaviour in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.)" was
conducted at the Horticultural Research Centre of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of
Agriculture and Technology, Meerut (U.P.) during summer 2014. The experiment was
laid out in Randomized Block Design with three replications. Different growth, flowering
and fruiting characters viz., Length of main vine (em), number of primary branches,
number of leaves, Length of leaves (em), width of leaves (em), Days to first flower
formation, number of male flowers per plant, number of female flowers per plant, Sex
Ratio, number of fruits per plant, Length of fruits at alternate days and five days (em),
width of fruits at alternate days and five days (em), weight of fruit (g), weight of total
fruits per plant and per plot (kg) and yield ( q/ha). The treatments involved in the study
were 8 in numbers i.e. GA3 (10, 20 and 30 ppm), NAA (50, 100 and 150 ppm), their
combined dose (GA3 20 ppm + NAA 150 ppm) and Control (Distill Water Spray) and
they were applied at 2 to 4 leaf stage with the prime objectives to study the effect of GA3.
NAA on vegetative growth, flowering and fruiting behaviour of cucumber. On the basis
of a comprehensive study on present investigation, it was concluded that combined dose
of (GA3 20 ppm + NAA 100 ppm) was found to be superior in terms of all growth
parameters, flowering behaviour, and yield and yield attributing characters of cucumber
in profitable manner. Therefore, the combined dose of (GA3 20 ppm + NAA 100 ppm)
was suggested for agro-climatic condition of western plain zone of Uttar Pradesh.
