Abstract
THESIS TOPIC: "Morphological and Molecular Diversity Analysis of Different Cultivars
of Rice(Oryza sativa L.)"
Rice is an important staple cereal crop in the world. It is the important source of
carbohydrates, protein, fats and vitamins. India is the second largest rice producer,
accounting for 22.25% of the world's rice production. India has the largest average
under rice with a production of about 106.90 million tones (record) in the year 2013-
14. The present study investigates the genetic diversity among the different rice
genotypes. Mean performance of selected twenty rice genotypes for eleven
morphological traits, physiological study for photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll
content. The mean of photosynthetic rate range from 3.17 micro-mol for (Madhukar),
to 9.35 micro-mol for (WAS-272-BB5-H5), Chlorophyll content range from 36.53
units for {TOX 3440-17-I -1-l-1-I) to 87.33 units for (IR77734-93-2-3-2). On the
basis of Mahalanobis D2statistics analysis all twenty genotypes divided in five
clusters. Molecular analysis out of 159 alleles, 30 alleles showed polymorphic with an
average number of alleles 3 per locus, where as 129 bands where monomorphic. All
the marker showed specific type of banding pattern in different genotypes and
categerized the genotypes under study in to four groups
