Abstract

The study was conducted in Meerut District of Uttar Pradesh. The sample size of 80 dairy farmers was selected purposively for the study and data were collected through personal interview method. Multi stage random sampling technique was adopted for the study with the Ex-Post Facto research design. Meerut District consists of twelve blocks, out of which two blocks were selected purposively viz. Sardhana & Daurala. From the selected blocks, four villages from each were selected purposively on the basis of major milk producing villages and 10 Dairy farmers selected from each selected village. Collectively, 80 respondents were selected purposively. Dairy farming is an integral part of the rural agricultural economy. Dairy husbandry is an important substitutional occupation providing regular employment and comparatively quick income to the rural farmers. The importance of dairy in our country hardly needs emphasizing. The present research entitled “A study about the entrepreneurial behaviour of dairy farmers in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh” was carried out during 2021-2022. The study reveals that most of the respondents belong to medium age, satisfactory percentage of literacy, majority of respondents belong to gender male, were living in nuclear family system having (up to 6) members in their family, were having 2-4 ha of land and maximum of them were engaged in dairy + agriculture. It was concluded that maximum number of respondents had medium level of socio-economic status. It was noted that higher number of the respondents had medium level of communication behaviour with majority of respondents having extension contact with different extension personnel whereas and mass media exposure through mobile phones. Further, the study concluded that the majority of dairy farmers had medium level of Entrepreneurial behaviour regarding dairy farming. The result of the correlation analysis revealed that the entrepreneurial behaviours of dairy farmers was found to be positively and highly significantly correlated with their education status, social participation, and size of land holding, annual income, herd size, market orientation, extension contact and source of information at one per cent level of significance. In regards of constraints majority of respondents face problem about distant location of veterinary health centres was perceived most important constraints followed by Lack of knowledge about balanced feeding
