Abstract

The field experiment entitled “Effect of Zinc and FYM on growth, yield and quality of okra [Abelmoschus esculantus (L.) Moench] cv. Pusa A-5’’, was carried out to evaluate the effect of basal and foliar application of INM on growth, yield and quality traits of Okra at the Horticultural Research Centre of the Department of Horticulture, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology Meerut- 250110(UP). All the treatments applied in randomized block design. The characters under study were namely, Days taken to germination, Plant height (cm), Number of green leaves per plant, Number of branches/plant, Number of nodes/plant, Days to 50% flowering, Days taken to first pod formation, fruit length (cm), Fruit diameter (cm), Number of fruits per plant, Fruit weight (g), Days taken to first fruit harvesting, Fruit yield per plot (kg), Fruit yield (q per ha). The details of are as follow treatment detail T1 - Control (Without fertilization), T2 - R.D.F (125:75:60 of N P K), T3 - RDF + Zinc @ 5 kg./ha., T4 - RDF + Zinc @2.5 kg./ha + 0.5% ZnSO4 foliar spray once at 45 days after sowing, T5 - RDF + Zinc foliar spray @ 0.5 % ZnSO4 twice at 45 60 days after sowing, T6 - 75 % RDF + FYM 6 ton/ha., T7 - 75 % RDF + FYM 6 ton/ha + Zinc @ 5 kg/ha., T8 - 75 % RDF + FYM 6 ton/ha + Zinc @ 2.5 kg/ha + one spray at 45 days, T9 - 75% RDF + FYM 6 ton/ha + Zn foliar spray @ 0.5% ZnSO4 twice at 45 and 60 days and T10 - 125% RDF. Analysis of variance showed high significant variance for all character under the study. The finding of experiment indicated that the treatment combination T10– 125% RDF has significant effect on growth, yield and quality parameter of Okra for all character studies followed by T8 - 75 % RDF + FYM 6 ton/ha + Zinc @ 2.5 kg/ha + one spray at 45 days and T9 - 75% RDF + FYM 6 ton/ha + Zn foliar spray @ 0.5% ZnSO4 twice at 45 and 60 days after sowing these characters were found significantly at par with 125% RDF treatment for most of the character. While the T1 – control has least effect on growth and yield parameter of the crop
