Tn addition to messenger RNA (mRNA), cells contain diverse types of noncoding RNA such as microRNA (miRNA), small interfering RNA (siRNA), trans-acting siRNA (tasiRNA), and long noncoding RNA (lncRNA). CircRNAs (circRNAs) are a distinct class of newly discovered endogenous noncoding RNAs. Due to the technological breakthroughs in high-throughput deep sequencing and functional genomics, recent works have not only uncovered large numbers of circRNAs that are abundantly and stably expressed in animal cells, but also demonstrated that circRNAs play an important role in a wide range of biological and developmental processes in plants. The study performed genome-wide identification of circRNAs in 01yza sativa, Arabidopsis tha/iana and Solanum. lycopersicum from RNA-Seq data. A total of predicted circRNAs obtained in A.thaliana, S.lycopersicum and O.sativa were 66, 211 and 1215 respectively. Further, predicted circRNAs were filtered out by blastn program against rRNA database. Finally, a total of putative circRNA were 65, 52 .and 1175 to be found in A. thaliana, S.lycopersicum and O.sativa respectively. A total of sponge miRNA on circRNA found in A. thaliana, S. lycopersicum and 0 sativa are I, 12 and 559. We obtained potential Internal Ribosomal Entry Sites (IRES) present on the respective circRNAs in all three species A. thaliana: 03, S.lycopersicum:03 and O.sativa :62. Also identified their role in biological processes like DNA helicase, protein kinase and COX assembly mitochondrial proteins. Our results demonstrated the presence of a large number ofcircRNAs in these crop species and their role in identifying IRES sites and respective miRNAs sponges . Our results also demonstrated that circRNAs are widespread in plants, revealed the common and distinct features of circRNAs in plants and , and suggested that circRNAs could be a critical class of noncoding regulators in plants.
