Abstract
An experiment entitled "Studies on Field Evaluation of Bio-pesticide and
Bio-agent against stem borer Chilo parte/Ius (Swinhoe) on maize• with seven
treatments 0 and three replication in RBD was conducted during Kharif, 2007
at Crop Research Centre (CRC) of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of
Agriculture and Technology Meerut (U.P.)- 250110.
However, the treatment with chemical insecticide i.e. lmidacloprid 17.8%
SL @ 150 mllh was found best among all the treatments with minimum
infestation of 15.33 per cent (20 DAS) and 16.53 per cent (40 DAS). minimum
leaf injury rating 2.09 (20 DAS) and 2.41 (40 DAS), minimum number of dead
hearts 2.02 (20 DAS) and 2.60 (40 DAS) and minimum 7.43 per cent of dead
hearts (40 DAS). This treatment was also found best with highest grain y1eld
(36.29 qlha), maximum increase in yield (16.58 q/ha) over control, maximum
net returns {Rs.11185.00 lha) and highest cost benefit ratio (9.9).
On the other hand Neem based insecticide was performed best among
bio-pesticides, bio-agent and Neem based insec!Jcide with the treatment
59
Neemann@ 3.0 liVha Wlth Infestation of 17 17 percent (20 DAS) and 18.90 per
cent (40 DAS), leaf injury rating 3.14 (20 DAS) and 3.32 (40 DAS), number of
dead hearts 5.12 (20 DAS) and 5.92 (40 DAS) and 16.90 per cent of dead
hearts (40 DAS). This treatment was also found best With grain yield (30.32
qlha), increase m yield (10.58 q/ha) over control, net returns (Rs 7935.00 lha)
and cost benefit ratio (6.1 ).The bio-agent Trichogramma chl/onis @1 lac
eggs/ha was found better after the treatment Neemarin @ 3.0 lit/ha and it
performed with infestation of 17.93 per cent (20 DAS) and 19.40 per cent (40
DAS), leaf injury rating 4.13 (20 DAS) and 4.31 (40 DAS), number of dead
hearts 6.11 (20 DAS) and 6.44 (40 DAS) and 18.40 per cent of dead hearts (40
DAS). This treatment was also found best with grain yield (28.54 q/ha),
increase in yield (8.83 qlha) over control, net returns (Rs.6622.50 lha) and cost
benefit rat1o (6. 6).
Among bio-pesticides the treatment Beauveria bassiana @ 2.5 kglha
was performed better than Bacillus thuringiensis @ 1.0 kg/h and this treatment
was observed with infestation of 18.40 per cent (20 DAS) and 20.47 per cent
(40 DAS), leaf injury rating 5.04 (20 DAS) and 5.42 (40 DAS), number of dead
hearts 6.20 (20 DAS) and 6.74 (40 DAS) and 19.27 per cent of dead hearts (40
DAS). The treatment Beauveria bassiana @ 2.5 kglha was also observed
better than Bacillus thuringiensis @ 1.0 kglh with grain yield (26.36 qlha).
increase in yield (6.65 qlha) over control, net returns (Rs.3862.50 lha) and cost
benefit ratio (4.4). The treatment with Bacillus thuringiensis @ 1.0 Kg/ha was
recorded safest to the natural enemies (spider) and followed by the Beauveria
bassiana @ 2.5 Kglha.
