Abstract

Gastrointestinal parasit~ represmt a major constraim to the producthity ll!ld SUSiainability of poultry farming worldwide. The chickens pick up the parasites directly by ingesting contaminated feed, water. or litter or by eating snails. earthworms. or other insects (dmgon ny) that can carry the infective stage. rhe study was carried out in and around Meerut • district of Uttar Pradesh state of India. The study was conducted to investigate the prc:\alencc: of gastrointestinal purasites in poultry. A total of 30 samples were collected randomly from different poultry farms and examined for the presence: of gastrointestinal parasites. Among the O\aall screened sampl~. 13 (43.33%) wm: reported positi\1: and 17 (56.66%) wm: found negati\'C for lhe parasitic mfcction. Out of posith-e samples Eimeria sppl Coccidia (76.92%) was reported in highest percentage followed by Capillaria spp. (I S.38%) IUld the least infection of Choanota~n/a spp. (7.69%) was found in current study after processing and screening the fecal samples. The results obtained attest to the reason behind the reduction in poulll)' production. It is therefore recommended thut farmers nrc: educated on fann manugc:riul practices that will reduce the risk of parasitic lnti:ctinn and this hdp to increase production of mc:at and eggs to fulfill the dcmund of conswnc:rs of country.
