dc.description.abstractThesis Title: The growth performance, haemato-biochemical and carcass quality of broiler chickens supplemented with vitamin e, zn, and cr. The present investigation entitled "the growth performance, haemato-biochemical and carcass quality of broiler chickens supplemented with vitamin E, Zn, and Cr" under the project entitled " Screening of superior breeds of poultry and their popularization among farming communities of Western Uttar Pradesh for backyard poultry production" was conducted at the Poultry Research and Training Centre of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Modipuram, Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) for 42 days, to study the effects of different inclusion levels of supplementary Vitamin E, Zn and Cr either individuaiJy or in combination on the growth performance, hemato-biochemical characteristics and carcass quality of broiler chickens. 240 day old chicks of Cobb 400 breed purchased from Luxmi Hatcheries, Viii. Bapoli, Distt. Panipatat were used in this experiment. The chicks were divided into 8 groups of 30 chicks each, with 3 replicates of 10 chicks in each group. The chicks were wing banded, weighed and then randomly distributed in dietary treatment into eight groups consisting of 30 chicks in each group. The chicks were reared under deep litter production system of management. These chicks were provided with broilers starter and finisher feeds formulated to provide 22% CP and 19% CP respectively from compounded feed ingredients purchased from a local market at Meerut. The ingredients included Fish meal, Soya bean meal, Ground nut cake, Maize and Rice polish, Mineral mixture and common salt. The ingredients were analyzed in the Animal Nutrition laboratory of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology for their nutrient composition and then they were mixed to provide 22% CP and 19% CP respectively using the Pearson Squares Method. Fish meal, Soya bean meal and Ground nut cake were categorized as protein feeds and Maize and Rice polish, as Energy feeds. vit.E, Zn and Cr. were supplied to the investigator at the beginning of the experiment and mixed in preformed compounded feed as supplements either individually or in combination. Tl, fed mixed ration only, served as control. T2 was fed mixed ration supplemented with 250 mglkg vit. E, F3 was fed mixed ration supplemented with 50 mglkg Zn, F4 was fed mixed ration supplemented with 0.7 mglkg Cr., F5 was feed mixed ration supplemented with 250 mg/kg vit. E +50 mglkg Zn. , F6 was fed mixed ration supplemented with 250 mglkg vit. E + 0. 7 mg/kg Cr. , F7 was fed mixed ration supplemented with 50 mglkg Zn. + 0. 7 mgfkg Cr. , F8 was fed mixed ration supplemented with 250 mglkg vit. E + 50 mglkg Zn. +0.7 mglkg Cr. Growth performance, carcass quality and hemato-biochemical parameters were investigated. Weekly feed consumption, weekly body weight and weekly body weight gain were significantly higher in supplemented treatment groups with combined elements than individual elements and lowest in control group. Dressing %, Eviscerated Weight % , Thigh weight % , Liver wt %, Heart wt%, Spleen wt %, Gizzard wt % were higher in supplemented groups and lowest in control group. The highest % of carcass characteristics was observed in T8. Hemato-biochemical characteristics were significantly higher in supplemented groups than control except for cholesterol which was higher in control groups as compared to supplemented groups. T8 showed a significantly higher level of hemato-biochemical characteristics than other treatment groups. Total and weekly feed consumption \vas not significantly different in 0-3 weeks' period but showed a significant difference among treatment. groups from 4-6 weeks of the experiment. T8 showed a preferentially high total and weekly feed consumption. The present investigation showed an improvement in growth perforrnance, hemato-biochem~cal ~aram~te~ . and carca~s characteristics among treatment groups supplemented with vitamin E, zinc, chromtum e1ther andavtdually o.r an combination as compared to control groups. The effects were higher when the element~ suppl~me~ted \vere c~mbtned due to their synergistic effects. It is therefore concluded that supplementation of combaned vataman E. chrom~u~ and, · has a preferential effect on growth perfonnance, hemato-biochemical parameters and carcass charactenstacs ot ZinC . · d · broiler chickens as compared to supplementing individual elements or control an broiler pro uctton.
