Abstract

Besides, it is involved in biological nitrogen fixation. Deficiencies of sulphur in Indian soil is widespread due to extensive use of sulphur free fertilizer coupled with extensive cultivation of high sulphur demanding crop, Moreover, Sulphur requirements of crop plants is quite high and with high yielding varieties and increased cropping intensity large amounts of nutrients are removed from the soil gradually. Pulse crops have been reported to deplete the soil S relatively to a greater extent. The importance of S for pulses cannot be overlooked since it plays a vital role in unique feature of biological nitrogen fixation. Likewise, Iron as a micronutrient play an important for plant growth and development. The soils of western Uttar Pradesh are sandy loam textured slightly moderate alkaline in reaction and low in organic matter. Crops grown in such soil conditions would suffer multi nutrients deficiencies including sulphur and iron. A field survey on iron chlorosis problem in groundnut carried out in various locations of the state clearly indicated severity of the problem in different areas (Sahu et al. 2008). Foliar spray of FeS04 is commonly used as a mean to control lime induced chlorosis on field grown on calcareous soil but spraying with iron salts alone has usually been found to be less effective because of precipitation of iron from the spray solution and poor translocation of applied iron within the plant. Raised bed farming is a system where the crop zone and the traffic lanes (wheel tracks or furrows) are distinctly and permanently separated. Soil is moved from the traffic lanes (or furrow) and added to the crop zone, slightly raising the surface level of the crop zone. Raised bed technology is an adaptation of the traditional hill and furrow row cropping design. Irrigation water moves laterally from the furrow. Raised beds improve
