Abstract

The present investigation entitled “Studies on Morphology and Bearing Behavior of Guava (Psidium guajava L.) Cultivars under Western Uttar Pradesh” was conducted at Horticultural Research Centre, Department of Horticulture, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology, Meerut (U.P.). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design and replicated four times. Total six treatments were used to assess morphology and bearing behavior of guava the different cultivars of guava viz, Lalit, Pusa Red Fleshed, Dhawal, Shweta, Lucknow-49 and Pant Prabhat during winter season of the years 2020-21 and 2021-22. The cultivar like Pant Prabhat and Lucknow-49 were found significantly superior in morphological characters like flowering percentage (%), fruit setting (%), number of fruits per plant, fruit weight (g), fruit length (cm) and width (cm), fruit diameter (cm) specific gravity, yield parameter, fruit yield (kg/tree) and fruit yield (q/ha) during both the seasons as compared to other cultivars i.e., Shewta, Pusa Red Fleshed, Dhawal and Lalit. In context of qualitative characteristics like TSS (0Brix), acidity (%), ascorbic acid (mg/100g), reducing sugar (%), non-reducing sugar (%) and total sugar (%) were found superior with the cultivar like Dhawal, Pusa Red fleshed, and Lalit as compared to Pant Prabhat, Lucknow-49 and Shewta. On the basis of overall performance of cultivar Pant Prabhat and Lucknow - 49 has been found most excellent with maximum net return per hectare and B:C ratio and recommended for growing under Western Uttar Pradesh condition.
