A Study on Evaluation of Role of Anganwadi Workers in Women and Child Development in Ghaziabad District

Abstract

The present study was carried out during the year 2023 in two blocks of Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh. The presented study was conducted on 90 respondents and data were collected through personal interview method with the help of interview schedule. The study revealed that the majority of the anganwadi workers (53.34%) belonged to middle age group, (33.34%) with education up to high school level, (62.22%) had medium family size, (63.34%) had low annual family income, (61.11%) had high level of experience, (75.55%) had taken Orientation, Refresher as well as other trainings and (72.22%) exhibited medium level of achievement motivation. The study revealed that majority of the workers (76.67%) had medium level of knowledge regarding supplementary nutrition, (81.11%) had medium level of knowledge regarding non – formal education, (71.11%) had medium level of knowledge regarding immunization, (51.11%) had medium level of knowledge regarding health check – ups, (86.67%) had medium level of knowledge regarding referral services and (64.44%) had medium level of knowledge regarding nutrition and health services. The study found that majority of the workers (95.56%) had correct knowledge regarding the services provided under non – formal education component with rank I, followed by (78.51%) referral services with rank II, (77.94%) nutrition and health services with rank III, (77.46%) immunization with rank IV, (74.30%) supplementary nutrition with rank V and (61.67%) health check – ups with rank VI. It was found that majority of the workers (72.22%) had medium level of overall knowledge regarding their roles as per ICDS provisions. It was found in the study that a positive significant relationship existed between the dependent variable i.e., knowledge level and independent variables namely – age, education, family size, family income, experience and training at 0.01 level of significance whereas no significant relationship was found with achievement motivation. It was found that the majority workers (66.66%) had medium level of job satisfaction. It was revealed that majority of the workers (87.78%) faced the problem of inadequate salary, followed by (83.33%) with excess workload from their own as well as other different departments and (80.00%) with the problem of poor infrastructure.
