Abstract

To study the effect of different plant growth regulators Cycocel, Maleic Hydrazide and Paclobutrazol each @ 200 ppm were tested over water spray. Similarly four levels of N (75,100, 125 and 150% RON) were tested over 75% RON. Soil was sandy loam in texture, low in organic carbon and available mtrogen, high in available phosphorus and med1um rn available potass1um havmg near to neutral reaction. An expenment was earned out dunng Khanf seasons of 2007 and 2008 at Crop Research Centre of S. V. P Univ of Agric. Tech Meerut, on sandy loam soil in a factorial randomized block design w1th three replication The crop was transplanted on July 10 dunng 2007 and July 11during 2008 with recommended production package for basmati rice production except for the treatments The crop performed better in 2008 as compared to 2007 due to favourable weather conditions and grain yield improved by 32.10 and 30.06% over water spray, respectively It was observed that 125% RON alongWith four spray of Paclobutrazol @200 ppm at different OAT gave highest tillers m'2(287 and 286) leaf area mdex (6.99 and 6.97), pamcle m'2 (225 and 221), test werght (21.3 and 21.4),graln yield (36.21 and 37.12 q ha' 1 ) , harvest index (26.08 and 24.16) and n1trogen uptake by gram (45 24 and 45 40 kg ha'1 ), while reduced plant he1P.ht of tall basmati rice. The max1mum net profit (Rs. 44763 07 and Rs. 45578.39 ha· ) and B C rabos (2.40 and 2.65) were also observed w1th Paclobutrazol + 125 % RON nitrogen fertrllzat1on. Economic suitable dose of N for tall basmati rice with foliar application of Paclobutrazol @ 200 ppm at different OAT was found 125% RON Paclobutrazol brought about an rmprovement rn phys1ologrcal parameters, protern content while reduce plant height and unfilled grain panicle·1 • Paclobutrazol proved better than the other plant growth regulators rn this regard Four foliar application of Paclobutrazol @ 200 ppm in combination with 125 % RON reduce the vegetative growth and produced s1gnifibnntly h1gher grarn yield of basmati nee when compared With the rest of the comb1nati ~s
