Abstract

The field experiment entitled “Studies on Integrated Management of Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) in chickpea in western U.P.” was conducted at Crop Research Centre of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut-250110 (U.P.) during Rabi, 2016-17 in a randomized block design with three replications and seven treatments. The larval population of H. armigera was recorded during December to April from control plots and it reached its peak at the first week of April i.e. 13th standard weeks when maximum and minimum temperature were recorded 36.10C and 18.70C, respectively, relative humidity 62.5 per cent and rainfall were 0.0 mm. The larval population recorded in chickpea had positive correlated with minimum (0.831) and maximum (0.823) temperatures, respectively and negative correlation with relative humidity (−0.634) and rainfall (‒0.175). Among different IPM modules the Chemical Intensive module (Quinalphos 25 EC @ 1.5 ml/lit> Cypermethrin 25 EC @ 1.0 ml/lit >Indoxacarb 14.5 SC @ 0.5 ml/lit) was found best in reducing the population of H. armigera with 6.34, 3.67, 4.67, and 2.00 per ten plants at one day before last spray, 7, 14, and 21 days after last spray, respectively, minimum pod damage with 6.27 per cent, maximum yield (15.75 q/ha) and highest cost benefit ratio (1:9.44) followed by Recommended module (Marigold as trap crop> Trichogramma chilonis @ 1,00,000/ ha> NSKE 5% > Quinalphos 25 EC @ 1.5 ml/lit> Carbaryl 50 WP 2g/lit). The highest number of H. armigera was recorded in untreated control with 15.00, 16.67, 18.34 and 16.00 per ten plants, respectively, maximum pod damage with 21.15 and minimum yield 5.67 q/ha. The lowest cost benefit ratio was found in Suggestive module (Trichogramma chilonis @ 1,00,000/ ha> Trichogramma chilonis @ 1,00,000/ ha> NSKE 5%> Spinosad 48 SC @ 0.4 g a.i./lit) with 1 : 0.37. Among all the modules the minimum population of Coccinellids of 2.34, 1.34, 1.67 and 0.34 and spiders 1.67, 0.67, 1.00, and 0.34 per ten plants at one day before last spray, 7, 14, and 21 days after last spray, respectively was recorded in Chemical Intensive module (Quinalphos 25 EC @ 1.5 ml/lit> Cypermethrin 25 EC @ 1.0 ml/lit >Indoxacarb 14.5 SC @ 0.5 ml/lit) and the maximum population of Coccinellids of 7.00, 8.00, 8.67, 6.34 and spiders 6.34, 7.00, 8.00, 6.00, respectively was recorded in untreated control followed by Bio-intensive module (Trichogramma chilonis @ 1,00,000/ ha>Trichogramma chilonis @ 1,00,000/ ha> NSKE 5 %> Bt @ 1.5 kg/ha) and Suggestive module (Trichogramma chilonis @ 1,00,000/ ha> Trichogramma chilonis @ 1,00,000/ ha> NSKE 5%> Spinosad 48 SC @ 0.4 g a.i./lit) were highly safe to Coccinellids and spiders.
