Abstract
To minimize the use of chemical fertilizers in crop production, and to explore the
possibility of application of organic fertilizers for sustainable agriculture. the experiment
was conducted at the Crop Research Center of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel L niH:r~it' nl
Agriculture & Technology. Meerut (U.P.) during 2005-06 and 2006-07 In · the
experiment live different raw material "ith Ei.~enia foetida were us.:d to prepare

for further study. Significant effect of different treatments of vermicornpost on physicochemical
properties on soil and plant growth was found. All the plant gro" th parameter)
at different days interval were found significantly higher with the application of
vem1icompost@ 3.0 t ha'1 with I 00% NPK as well as 75% NPK@ 3.0 t ha 1 dunng both
the years. Biological, grain and straw yields of wheat were influenced significantly by
various treatments.

similar dose of NPK. Similarly increasing the doses of NPK within same dose of
vermicaornpost resulted significantly higher nutrient status in soil and plant.
Comparison of various parameters like gro\\1h, yield, plant nutrient cont.:nt ami
nutrient uptake by plant etc., revealed that T7 (75% 1\PK with vcrmicompo>t '" '1 0 t h,1

vermicompost along with 75% NPK is a better combination tor op1imum crop) icld. I h1s
combination also enhanced the soil health by improving avai lability of different nutrient
as well as physico-chemical properties of soil.
