| dc.description.abstract | The present investigation entitled "Screening ·of maize cultivars and evaluation of insecticides against maize stem borer, C. parte/Ius (Swinhoe) was conducted at Crop Research centre, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut during kharif 2014. The first experiment comprised of fifteen maize cultivars laid out in R.B.D. with three replication and the second experiment comprised of seven insecticides treatment laid out in R.B.D. with three replication. Among all cultivars Pmh-117, Buland and Parkash cultivars recorded moderately resistant. Bio-9637, Seedtech-2324, Hqpm-1, Bio-9681 and Hybrid maize gs-802 cultivars recorded moderately susceptible. Cultivars Sujata, Dhs-42 hybrid, African tall and Nmh-920 recorded susceptible. Maximum (45.92) per cent infestation recorded in Hybrid madhuri. Dead hearts formation recorded in screening experiment after thirty and forty five days of sowing. Minimum dead heart formation recorded in Buland after forty five days of sowing followed by Pmh-117, Bio-9637, Hqpm-7, Seedtech-2324 and Hybrid maize gs-802, respectively. 11aximum dead hearts formation recorded in Hybrid madhuri. Leaf injury rating recorded in thirty and forty days after sowing. Minimum leaf injury rating recorded in Pmh-117 with 3.33 per cent of infestation and maximum leaf injury rating recorded in Hybrid madhuri with 8.00 per cent of infestation after forty five days of sowing. Among all treatments spinosad 45% SC @ 200 mllha were found most effective against C. parte/Ius followed by bifenrhrin 10% EC @ 400 mllha, cartap hydrochloride SO% SP @ 1 kg/ha, carbofuran 3G @ 20 kg/ha, phorate 1 OG @ 15 kg/ha and imidachlorpid 17.8% SL @ 250 ml/ha. The maximum C. partellus infestation was recorded in untreated control. In second experiment dead hearts formation and leaf injury rating recorded after thirty and forty days of sowing. Minimum dead hearts formation and leaf injury rating recorded in spinosad treated plot and maximum dead hearts and leaf injury recorded in untreated control after forty five days of sowing. The highest yield (45.01 q/ha) was obtained from the spinosad treated plot followed by bifenthrin, cartap, carbofuran, phorate and imidachloprid with 38.44, 36.93, 35.91, 32.63 and 28.42 grain yield q/ha. The highest cost benefit ratio (9.86) was recorded in bifenthrin treated plot followed by cartap, imidachloprid, carbofuran, phorate and spinosad with 4.50, 3.35 2.95, 2.39 and 3.33, respectively. | |
