dc.description.abstract | Potato is an annual herbaceous, self-pollinated and the most important cultivated tuber crop belongs to family Solanaceae. The botanical name of potato is (Solanum tuberosum L.) and was given by Linnaeus in his book “Species Plantarum”. Solanum stenotonum, probably consider as an ancestor of all cultivated potatoes (Reddy et al. 2018). It is also known as white or Irish potato and consider as “The King” of all vegetable crops. Potato is under the constant threat of diseases and about 200 diseases are known to infect potato crop worldwide. And about 40 viruses naturally infect potato worldwide. Potato leaf roll virus (PLRV) is most devastating disease, as it can completely destroy the crop. The characteristic field symptoms of potato leaf roll virus disease include major and prominent primary symptom are the rolling of the leaves, dry leathery and rolled like paper and brownish margins. The secondary symptoms in plant upward rolling of leaflets, especially those on lover leaves, whole plant stunting, depending on virus, vector and the host. The present investigation was carried out on survey of leaf roll disease of potato caused by PLRV virus. The survey conducted during Rabi season 2021-22 in 6 districts of Meerut Division (Meerut, Hapur, Ghaziabad, Gautambuddha Nagar, Bulandshahr and Baghpat). The survey was conducted when the crop was 8 to 11 weeks old. During the survey highest disease incidence was recorded in Hapur district (49.16%) followed by Meerut (38.88%), Baghpat (32.00%), Bulandshahr (26.43%), Ghaziabad (14.59%) respectively, while lowest disease incidence was recorded in Gautambuddha Nagar (13.75%). Highest disease severity was recorded in Hapur district (13.69%), followed by Meerut (12.96%), Baghpat (9.50%), Bulandshahr (8.22%), Ghaziabad (4.93%) respectively, while lowest disease severity was recorded in Gautambuddha Nagar (4.10%). Among blocks, the highest disease incidence and severity of potato leaf roll virus was found in Durala (Lawad Khash) of Meerut district with disease incidence 81.67% and severity 31.25% respectively. However, least disease incidence and severity was observe in Jewar (Mewla Gopalgarh) of Gautambuddha Nagar district with disease incidence 6.66%and disease severity 1.67% respectively. Among verities, the highest disease incidence and severity of potato leaf roll virus was found in Kufri Bahar (3797) with disease incidence 60.00% and severity 20.29% respectively. However, least disease incidence and severity was observed in Kufri chipsona-1 with disease incidence 9.17% and severity 2.57% respectively. | |
