Abstract

Baghpat district is well known for its significant contribution to sugarcane production in the state. The present study on ‘Impact assessment of Tricho card on sugarcane crop in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh’ was carried out in the year 2021-22 with objectives to find out socio-economic profile of farmers, costsand return as per CACP cost concepts and constraints. Among 6 blocks of the district, Pilana block has highest area under Tricho card user was selected. The study used both primary and secondary data. Average family size of respondents was 5 members per family (i.e., Tricho card and non Tricho card sugarcane grower). 33.33 per cent having qualification Intermediate in both categories viz. Tricho card user and non Tricho card user whereas 88.33 percent had agriculture as main occupation in case of Tricho card users and 68.33 per cent had agriculture as main occupation in case of Tricho card non users on sugarcane cultivation. Per hectare overall cost of cultivation of sugarcane for planted and ratoon crop with Tricho card and without Tricho card category growers were Rs. 240814.36, Rs. 154942.88 and Rs. 242100.62 and Rs. 155838.39 respectively. Per hectare overall Cost A1/A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 and C3 were found to be Rs.138645.14, Rs. 143187.44, Rs. 185187.44, Rs. 176922.15, Rs. 21892.21, Rs. 240814.36for planted and Rs. 71658.24, Rs. 76200.55, Rs. 118200.55, Rs. 98857.16, Rs. 140857.16, Rs. 154942.88 for ratoon with use of Tricho card. Similarly, Rs. 136928.69, Rs. 136928.69, Rs.141478.29, Rs.183478.29, Rs.178091.17, Rs. 220091.47, Rs. 242100.62 for planted, Rs. 70259.66, Rs.74809.26, Rs.116809.26, Rs.99671.26, Rs.141671.26 and Rs.155838.39 for ratoon crop without use of Tricho card respectively. Gross returns from sugarcane cultivation were planted and ratoon with Tricho card Rs. 305125.00, Rs. 337887.50Rs. 304150.00 and Rs. 336766.67 per hectare and without use of Tricho card category. The net returns per hectare on respective category farms were Rs.64310.64, Rs. 182944.62, Rs. 62049.38and Rs. 180928.28. The return per rupee observed for planted and ratoon with Tricho card sugarcane grower were 1: 1.27 and 1: 2.18 whereas the benefit-cost ratio observed for planted ratoon without use of Tricho card sugarcane grower were 1: 1.26 and 1: 2.16 respectively. Low price given by cane crusher, Lack of knowledge about insecticides preparation for spraying, Delayed in weighting and purchasing by factory, Lack of knowledge about application of balance fertilizer, Delayed payment of sugarcane emerged as the major constraints faced by the respondents in the study area.
