Abstract
Water stress is a major factor limiting in rice production and affects global production and
distribution of rice. Six rice varieties Pusa Basmati1, Pusa1121, Type3 and Vallabh basmati
(Basmati type) and two non-basmati rice varieties Nagina 22 and Susk Samrat were selected
for the water stress experiment. The study of water stress effect on morphological ,
biochemical and molecular expression showed wide range of variations among all the
selected rice varieties. The result showed that all the morphological characteristics
decreased under water stress condition. In overall performance the chlorophyll content,
photosynthesis, relative water content, membrane stability index decreased when these
plants varieties were subjected to water stress condition. Proline content increased in water
stress tolerant rice variety during water stress condition. Gene expression analysis of
various transcription factors AP37,AP59, OsMYB48-1,OsMYB-2, GeBP1, GeBP2 and
genes OsLEA, OsP5CS2 related to water stress condition are up and down regulated under
water stress condition compare to control condition
