The investigation entitled "'Evaluation of basmati rice (Oryza sativa L.) Cultivars under different crop establishment methods" was carried out at the Crop Research Centre ofSardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology, Meerut, U.P. during Kharifseason of2015. The experiment consisting ofthree establishment methods in main plots viz; transplanted rice after reduced tillage (RTTPR), transplanted rice on wide raised beds (WBTPR) and conventional puddled transplanted rice (CTTPR) and five cultivars in sub plot V1-Vallabh Basmati- 22, V2-Vallabh Basmati- 21, V3-Pusa Sugandha-4 (PB- 1121), V4-Pusa Sugandha-5 (PS-2511) and V5-Pusa Basmati-1 were tested in Split Plot Design with three replication. The soil of experimental site was sandy loam in texture, low in organic carbon, available nitrogen & available potassium and medium in available phosphorus and alkaline in reaction. The findings of the experiment revealed that crop establishment method conventional puddled transplanted rice (CTTPR) resulted in to maximum growth and yield attributes viz. plant height, number of tillers, leaf area index and dry matter accumulation, number of effective tillers, panicle length, grains panicle, test weight and yield of the crop while the lowest values of growth and yield attributes and yield was noticed in transplanted rice after reduced tillage (RTTPR) method. Similarly, the uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium by grain and straw was also found higher in conventional puddled transplanted rice (CTTPR) crop establishment method. The highest gross return (Rs 105340 ha-1) and net return of Rs 77648 ha-1 was observed in conventional puddled transplanted rice (CTTPR) method followed by transplanted rice on wide raised beds (WBTPR) method (Rs. 103245 ha-1). However, the maximum benefit cost ratio was noticed in transplanted rice on wide raised beds (WBTPR) crop establishment method. Among the different varieties, Vs (Pusa Basmati-1) variety produced maximum growth and yield attributes and yield than rest of the varieties. Therefore, it may be concluded that V s (Pusa Basmati-1) variety should be grown with transplanted rice on wide raised beds (WBTPR) crop establishment method for achieving hi r yields and net return.
