Abstract
The present study entitled " Studies on the management of malformation in
Amrapali mango (Mangifera indica L.)", was conducted during 2005-06 and 2006-
07 at Horticultural Research Centre of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Un!Verstty of
Agnculture and Technology, Meerut. Uttar Pradesh-250110, with a view to find out
the suttable control measures of mango malformahon and to improve frutt yteld and
quality of highly susceptible cult1var 'Amrapall' to floral malformation under Western
Uttar Pradesh conditions During the study period, different chemtcal (tncluding
acanc1de and growth promoter) and mechanical (Deblossommg, shoot pruning at
different months and intensities and stalk prumng) treatments were applied to
'Amrapall' mango trees at d1fferent stages. On the basis of results obtained from the
study, 1t may be concluded that of all the treatments appl.ed in the study, exogenous
apphcat1on of NAA 200 ppm in the first week of October (before bud break stage) and
deblossoming at bud burst stage was found to be the most effectiVe treatment (·
64.63% reduction over control) than NAA application alone without deblossoming,
shoot pruning, acaricide application and stalk pruning for reducing the incidence of
floral malformation and improv1ng the fruit yield and qualrty of 'Amrapah' mango under
the climatiC conditions of Western Uttar Pradesh The treatments, namely, NAA
application alone Without deblossom1ng (-57.91% reduct1on over control) and prunmg
of 20 em shoot bearing malformed panicle m January (-55.10% reduction over
control) were the next best ones in suppressing the d1sorder. The deblossoming
alone w1thout NAA application or NAA application alone w1thout deblossoming and
shoot pruning treatments did not prove better than deblossoming in combination w1th
NAA 1n reducmg the incidence of malformation.
