Abstract
The present study was conducted in year 2021-22 on “ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF POULTRY PRODUCTION ENTERPRISES IN MEERUT DISTRICT OF WESTERN UTTAR PRADESH” with following objectives 1.To study Socio economic status of the poultry units/farmer. 2. To estimate the costs and returns of the poultry enterprise in the study area. 3. To identify the marketing channel of poultry and poultry product and workout the price spread. 4. To examine the constraints related to poultry production and marketing and suggest suitable measures. From the purposively selected district and two blocks on basis of availability of poultry farms. In the selected blocks total poultry farms were 35 and 30, out of which 40 poultry farmers (20 and 20 from each blocks) small 20, medium 12 and large 8 with no. of birds in small (6400), medium (15900) and large (26000) in the farms were selected randomly. To meet the objectives statistical tools average, percentage etc. were employed. The present study indicated, that majority of the farmers (80%) belong to the age group more than 30 years and only 20 percent belonged to age group of less than 30 years. The main occupation of the respondents in the study area was poultry farming (60%) and lowest number of respondents engage in business. Total overall cost of broiler production in the Meerut district was Rs. 1707074.00 in which variable and fixed cost accounted to be Rs. 1662830.00 (97.40 %) and Rs 44244.00 (2.60 %). Category wise broiler production i.e. small, medium and large. The total cost of production of broiler in small, medium and large category found to be Rs. 824494.00, 1997539.00 and 3219225.00 respectively. The average cost of production of poultry bird in overall, small, medium and large category was Rs. 124.60, 128.82, 125.63 and Rs. 123.81. The overall gross returns from poultry farms in Meerut district was Rs 2027420.00. Net returns obtained was Rs 320346.00 with benefit cost ratio of 1:18. In small, medium and large size of poultry farms, the total gross return was Rs. 952157.00, 2352680.00 and Rs. 3853550.00. The highest net return and benefit cost ratio obtained was 634325.00 and 1.19 in large category of farm size. Similar trend found in Mawana and Daurala blocks. In the marketing of broilers highest producer share in consumer rupee 89.50 per cent (Rs. 89.50/Kg.) was in channel-III followed by channel-II 85.00 per cent (Rs 85.00/ kg) and channel-I 69.91 per cent (Rs 82.50/ kg). The highest marketing cost observed in channel-I (Rs. 9.50/Kg.) followed by channel-II (Rs. 5.00/Kg.) and channel-III (Rs. 3.50/Kg.). In the survey, it was found that the maximum (95.00 %) of respondents reported the problem of high cost of feed. Result also show that (85.45 %) poultry entrepreneurs reported low prices of poultry birds and 78.18 % reported losses due to uncertainty in weather condition.
