Abstract
The present study entitled "Flowering and Fruiting Pattern of Mango
(Mangifera indica L.) Cultivars under Western Uttar Pradesh Conditions,"
was conducted during 2009-11 at Horticultural Research Centre and Department
of Horticulture of the University with a view to find out the suitable cultivar(s)
having desirable characteristics with high production under western conditions of
Uttar Pradesh. During the period of investigation, different quantitative and
qualitative traits related to panicle emergence, flowering, fruiting, maturity,
ripening, organoleptic quality and storage behavior of nineteen cultivars, namely,
Alphanso, Amrapali, Bombay Green, Chausa, Dashehari, Gaurav, Gulab Jamun,
Hushnara, Langra, Mallika, Munjri, Meathamalda, Neelum, Ramkela, Rassgulla,
Rataul, Surkhuru, Totapari and Varmasurkh were studied. Based on the results
obtained from this study, it may be concluded that the cultivars, namely, Gaurav
> Chausa > Rataul > Dashehari by and large were found promising in
comparison with other cultivars in respect of quantitative and qualitative traits
under the climatic conditions of western Uttar Pradesh. However, further detailed
investigation on flowering fruiting, biochemical parameters, disease reaction and
post harvest behavior would be helpful in recommending the most suitable
cultivar for commercial cultivation in the region.
