Study on Feed and Fodder Availability for Goats Under Field Conditions of Hardoi District of U.P

Abstract
The present investigation was conducted to study the feed and fodder
availability for goat in nine blocks of Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh. A total number of
60 respondents were personally interviewed. It was observed that 23.33% goat keeper
was middle level educate and 48.33 % of the respondents were middle (36 to 50 years)
old age group. It was found that majority (61.67%) of respondents was practiced group
feeding of goats. The highest (48.33%) respondents using common pasture land site in
their respective area and the most (53.45%) of the respondents stated that they grazing
to goats in morning hours compare to evening (46.55%) hrs., hence, it was on average
5-6 hrs. in a day for grazing to goats. The important commonly feed and fodders for
goats were leaf of tree, herbs, root, grasses and Berseem. It was concluded that hay
and silage are not practices in this area. It is also observed that 51.67% respondents
provided the Gur solution during just after the kidding of goats in the study area. The
maximum (55.00%) respondents provided % Kg concentrate per day to their lactating
goats for production. When the estimated regarding adoption level of recommended
feeding practices, it was clean and fresh water availability with the highest (1st) score
followed by grazing duration, feeding of green fodder around the year, cultivation of
green fodder, feeding of balance concentrate mixture, feeding of extra ration in advance
pregnancy, feeding of mineral mixture, feeding of common salt and chaffing of fodders
as II,III,IV,V,VI,VII,VIII, and IX score, respectively.
