Dendranthema grandiflora Tzelev commonly known as chrysanthemum, has been the subject of several genetic studies aimed at defining appropriate breeding strategies for diverse crop improvement. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate genetic diversity so that sufficient. diversity is available to arlow the production of new improved varieties. A total of nine morphological traits, ten RAPD, ten ISSR and seven SSR primers were used to compare the informativeness and efficiency of all these markers in assessing genetic diversity in twenty four genotypes of chrysanthemum. Analysis of variance revealed considerable differences among the genotypes for all the morphological traits studied. Among the DNA markers, RAPD generated 79 amplification products, out of which 64 were polymorphic; ISSR produced 98 amplification products, out of which 59 were polymorphic; whereas SSR produced 16 amplification products, out of which 15 were polymorphic. SSR analysis detected more polymorphic loci (93.75%) than RAPD {81.01%) and ISSR (60.20%). Mean PIC (polymorphism information content), Ml (marker index) and Rp (resolving power) for each of these marker systems (RAPD: 0.5, 2.92 and 9.40; ISSR: 0.51, 2. 1.2 and 1 i .28; SSR: 0.74, 1.57 and 2.03) suggested that ISSR marker 0) more eff!cient over RAPD and SSR markers in chrysanthemum.
