Present study was undertaken to fingerprint the thirty four genotypes of rice orginated from geographical, regions like India, Philippines, USA, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Guinea, Nepal, China, Bhutan and Thailand, popular rice genotypes were subjected to diversity study using simple sequence repeat (SSRs), total of 19 SSRs, 18 were generated polymorphism bands. Total of 86 alleles were obtained from 18 primers, of which all were 1 00% polymorphic, with an average of 4.5 bands per primer, the number of polymorphic allele ranged from I to 7 and 100% polymorphism were obtained in the case of all 18 primers, one SSR primer which were provider null result was RM-21. The PIC values and resolving power were calculated for individual primers. In SSR assay, primer RM-1 0 was observed to be highly polymorphic (PIC value of 0.99) and RM-536 expressed minimum polymorphism (PIC value of 0.03). The resolving power varies between 1.99 (RM-1 0) to 0.06 (RM-536). The analysis indicated that SSR primers were highly polymorphic. The maximum similarity of 0.95 was observed between Emping ara, wahng and minimum similarity of 0.70 between Zechum, Sossoka and Trembese. The cluster analysis was made using NTSYS Software. All the thirty four rice genotypes were grouped into two main clusters with SSR molecular marker assay. Minor variation was observed in distribution of genotypes in sub-clusters in all cases. In general, distribution of varieties remained independent of their geographical origin. Lemont (USA) and shondon (Guinea) genotype consistently expressed diversity from all other genotypes. It was also noticed that zobgui expressed closeness with mars and khaiyan genotypes in most of the assays. The analysis indicated that SSR primers were highly polymorphic and. genetic diversity will be useful for the selection of the parents for rice breeding.
