A Study on Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme Among the Farmers in Hamirpur District of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

The present study was carried out during the year 2023-24, in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh. It was observed that the 36.66 per cent of respondents were middle-aged, 30.80 per cent with primary education, and 47.50 per cent were have small landholdings with less than 1 ha. Land. 62.50 per cent were engaged solely in agriculture and 48.30 per cent were belonged to small families. Ownership of agricultural implements varied, with 55.00 per cent having sprayers. A significant proportion 70.80 per cent had no organizational memberships. Income-wise, 78.34 per cent belongs to the medium income range. 78.33 per cent respondents having medium socio-economic status. Information about the PM-KISAN scheme was primarily sourced from family members and mobile phones with 46.66 per cent and 36.67 per cent respectively, while formal sources like KVKs and newspaper were less utilized. 43.30 per cent respondents have a positive attitude towards PM-KISAN scheme followed by 30.00 per cent of the respondents had neutral attitude whereas 23.30 per cent respondents reacted with negative attitude. The fund utilization pattern revealed that 100 per cent respondents using funds for fertilizers, 74.39 per cent using for pesticides, 64.63 per cent using for seeds and crop harvesting and 35.36 per cent using for irrigation charges under agricultural purposes, while household expenses dominated under non-agricultural use. Major technical constraints were observed lack of knowledge about the PM-KISAN portal, e-KYC, and land seeding. Under financial constraints it was observed the less frequency of installments and insufficient funds. Personal constraints involved literacy issues and lack of banking service knowledge.
