A Study of Technological Gaps With Special Reference of Major Crops and Animal Husbandry Practices in Basti District (U.P)

Abstract

The proposed study was co.nducted in two blocks of Basti district of Eastern Uller Pradesh. From each block fivl.! villages were purposively selected. A total sample size was of 50 respondents to determine the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents l"ind out the technological gaps and identified the constraints for existing, technological gap with · special reference of major crops and animal husbandry practices. Socio-economic characteristics of the respondents, it was observed that most of the farmers belonged to age group of 30-45 years (middle age) ,their education level was till to intermediate, back word in caste ,living in joint family system, their social participation \\1ere low, having 1-2 ha. of land, own pump-set for irrigation , most of the fanners were using radio & T.V. for information, they have not drought animals for farm power and most of the fanners belonged to the income group of Rs.-20,000- 50.000 /= per annum The maximum gaps was found existing m seed treatment, micronutrients, lnt ~rculture, methods of fertilizer application, plant protection measures and post harvest technology and non availability of inputs at proper time in descending order. Similarly, the gaps of animal husbandry practices maximum 100 per cent gaps were found in dewonning in case of buffalo and cow. Above gaps were due to poor resources, unawareness, lack of skill, non availability of inputs at proper time.
