For present investigation entitled "Evaluation of efficacy of some novel chemical insecticides against Chilo parte/Ius (Swinhoe) in maize", the field experiments were conducted in randomized block design with three replications of seven treatments for years i.e. "kharif, 2011 at crop research centre, chirori, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology, Meerut (U.P.) 250110. In extensive study, five species of insects were observed to be associated with the maize at experimentation location during the period of study. Among them, Chilo parte/Ius (Swinhoe) was found as major insect-pest of maize with severe damage and high economic status. Aphids were noticed with moderate economic status while all the other three insect-pest recorded Abstract ... iii on the crop were of less importance and extent of their dam~ge was found without much economic loss. Among all the treatments chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC used as seed treatment (4ml/kg seed) and spray (350ml/ha) was found best with minimum infestation of 4.5 per cent at (25 DAS) and 7.42 per cent at (40 DAS) and followed by fipronil 5 SC. The maximum infestation of 30.45 per cent (25 DAS) and 31.30 per cent (40 DAS) was recorded with untreated control during the study. The minimum number of dead hearts (2.33) at 25 DAS and (3.00) at 40 DAS were found with the treatment of chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC used as seed treatment (4ml/kg seed) and spray (350ml/ha) and next in order was the treatment of fipronil 5 SC .The maximum number of dead hearts 7.33 (25 DAS) and 6.33 (40 DAS) was recorded with untreated control during kharif, 2011. The minimum tunnel length (1 .94 em) was found in chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC used for seed treatment (4ml/kg seed) and spray (350ml/ha) and was followed by fipronil 5 SC. The maximum tunnel length (11 .07 em) per plant was recorded in untreated control. The minimum population of coccinellids (2.40, 3.13 and 3.87) was recorded in chlorpyriphos 20EC used for seed treatment (4ml/kg seed) and spray (1 lit/ha) at 15, 30 and 45DAS, respectively. The maximum population of coccinellids 14.68, 10.81 and 11.67 at 15, 30 and 45DAS, respectively was recorded in untreated control followed by chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC and thiamethoxam (25FS+25WG). Which were highly safe to coccinellids population and were at par with untreated control. The maximum grain yield of 73.33 q/ha obtained from the treatment of chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC used for seed treatment (4ml/kg seed) and spray (350ml/ha) and followed by fipronil sse @ 4ml/kg (seed treatment) and @625 ml/ha (spray) with the grain yield of 71.00 q/ha and thiodicarb 75WP @ 4g/kg Abstract ... iv (seed treatment) and @625 g/ha (spray) with the grain yield of 66.67 q/ha .. The minimum grain yield of 37.78 q/ha was recorded in untreated control.respectively.The highest net profit of Rs. 32714/ha was obtained from the plots treated with chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC and was followed by fipronil SSC @ 4ml/kg (seed treatment) and @625 mllha (spray), thiodicarb 75WP, thiamethoxam (25FS+25WG), imidacloprid (70 FS + 70WG ) and chlorpyriphos 20EC with the net profit of 30545.6, 26492.2! 19945.6,and 15684.6 rupees/ha,respectively, while, the minimum net profit (Rs. 11420.00/ha) was calculated from the treatment of chlorpyriphos 20EC.
