Abstract
Genus Oryza has 24 species of which, 22 are wild and two species viz. Oryza sativa and Oryza glaberrima are cultivated worldwide. Plant growth and productivity of rice (Oryza sativa) is significantly affected by numerous biotic and abiotic stress inducing factors. Water deficit is regarded as one of the major abiotic stresses that adversely affect growth and yield of this crop. Drought remains as one of the major constraints limiting rice productivity. Conventional breeding approaches are slow in progress towards developing drought tolerant rice varieties due to complex nature of drought tolerance mechanism. In plants, development of new varieties having high yield and better performance under water stress conditions demands the proper understanding of their genetic basis. In silico tools are the best source to identify such drought responsible gene and their characterizations. This thesis elucidates an attempt to find out the different candidate genes inducing drought resistant in Oryza sativa, its related proteins and the proteins were characterized and its secondary structural arrangements were deciphered.
