Lactoferrin is a bioactive molecule and major iron binding protein in milk, colostrum, neutrophils, blood and physiological fluids. The objective of the study is isolation of lactoferrin gene from cow (Bas taurus) milk by eDNA preparation from RNA and the lactoferrin gene is amplified by Polymerase Chain Reaction using lactoferrin gene specific primers designed by bioinformatics tools. This amplified gene sequence is 2169 bp in length. Through phylogenetic analysis, the comparison of lactoferrin sequence of Bas taurus with other species revealed the highest 99.9% nucleotide sequence identity with Bas taurus lactoferrin (BC116051 ), 96.5% with Bubaline arnee bubalis lactoferrin (AJ005203), 82% with Camelus dromadarius lactoferrin (AJ131674), 77.2% with Equus caballus lactoferrin (AJ01 0930) and 76. 7°/b with Homo sapiens lactofenin (AY165046).
