Abstract
India is one of the leading oil seed producing country in the world. Rapeseed and
mustard are the main oil seed crops grown in rabi season in India. Oil seeds the second
largest agricultural commodity after cereals in India. India occupies third position in oil
production in the world. The effect of Zinc and Iron with recommended doses of
nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium on growth and yield attributes in Mustard, nutrient
content and uptake for mustard crop, different soil properties were observed during
present investigation. The field experiment was conducted at Crop Research Centre of,
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology; Meerut (U.P) in rabi
season 2009-10, on Pusa Bold variety of Mustard. Maximum plant height (70.25cm),
primary branches (I L.05), secondary branches (31.33), Siliqua per plant (545.35), number
of seed per Siliqua (13.55), seed weight per plant 30.38g and test weight (1000 seed
weight) 6.50g were recorded in T9. Whereas the biological yield was produced highest in
T9 [RDF + Zn (B) + Fe (B)] i.e. 1 I4.80 q/ha and the grain yield was also high in T9
showing value 23.40 q/ha. The maximum Stover yield produced 91.40 q/ha in T9 (40.82
q/ha.). The effect of different treatments on soil properties were also recorded in this
investigation in which the organic carbon at 30 DAS raised from 3.8 g/kg to 4.6 g/kg in
different treatments, highest available nitrogen level was recorded in T9 185.82 kg/ha at
30 DAS. The highest available phosphorus level was found in T4 i.e. 18.53 kg/ha at 30
DAS and highest available potassium was found in T9 201.79 kg/ha, at 30 DAS. The
Highest zinc and iron availability was found 2.74 in T9 and 17.22 kg/ha in T~
respectively. The effect of different treatments on nutrients content and uptake was as
followed; the highest nitrogen content and uptake in grain i.e. 2.66% and 62.24 was
observed in T 9• In case of phosphorus and potassium uptake by grain was also highest in
T9. The phosphorus content of Stover was ranges from Minimum in control (T1) 0.099%
to maximum 0.126% in T4. Highest total nitrogen uptake by mustard crop was 67.19
kg/ha in T 9, in case of phosphorus and potassium uptake by mustard crop the observation
was 21.82 kg/ha and 152.82 kg/ha respectively. The highest zinc and iron content in grain
was also highest in T 9. The same results were found in case of stover. The total uptake of
zinc by mustard crop was maximum in T 9 and the iron was also highest in T 9 i.e. 251.76
g/ha and 2314.53 glha respectively. The all over investigation shows that the maximum
yield attributes and improvement of soil property was found when zinc and iron was
applied as basal with recommended dose of fertilizers.
