Abstract
The present study was conducted in Muzaffarnagar district of western Uttar Pradesh in the year 2018. The district Muzaffarnagar is one of the sugarcane, wheat, mustard and paddy producing district of western Uttar Pradesh in terms of area and production. The changing scenario of input utilization among different crops directly affected the profit share of the producer as well as the sugar factory production and productivity of the crop. It was found that, the average size of farm possessed by marginal, small, medium and large farmers was 0.64, 1.65, 2.84 and 5.37 hectare, respectively in the study area. Overall farm size, the average farm size of selected farmers was 1.79 hectare. Most of the selected farmers were from general caste i.e., 58 per cent and the rest 42 per cent belongs to the OBC caste. In case of Paddy overall average cost of cultivation was estimated to be Rs. 91349.61 per hectare and category wise it was found positively correlated. The operational cost, material cost and other costs were found to be 24.94, 18.45 and 47.50 per cent to the total cost. Per hectare gross return was Rs. 115352.00 with net returns of Rs. 32306.90. The Benefit Cost ratio of paddy crop was 1: 0.38. For wheat overall average cost of cultivation was estimated to be Rs. 76165.74 and operational cost, material cost and other costs were found to be 24.77, 12.40 and 53.72 per cent to the total cost, category wise it was found positively correlated. Per hectare gross return was Rs. 97028.80 with net returns of Rs. 35287.84. The Benefit cost ratio of wheat crop was 1: 0.36.For mustard overall average cost of cultivation was estimated to be Rs.62805.70 and operational cost, material cost and other cost were found to be 27.72, 10.27 and 52.99 per cent to the total cost, category wise it was found positively correlated. Per hectare gross return was Rs. 86800.00 with net return of Rs.23994.34. The Benefit cost ratio of mustard crop was1:0.38. In case of sugarcane (Planted), the overall average cost of cultivation was estimated to be Rs. 236763.01 and operational cost, material cost and other costs were found to be 33.01, 26.57 and 40.38 per cent to the total cost. Per hectare gross return was Rs. 252193.75 with net returns of Rs. 15430.74. For sugarcane (Ratoon), the overall average cost of cultivation was estimated to be Rs. 161008.16 and operational cost, material cost and other costs were found to be 29.68, 12.37 and 57.94 per cent to the total cost. Per hectare gross return was more than sugarcane (Planted) and it was Rs. 283399.56 with net returns of Rs. 137372.27.
