Studies on suitable propagation technique in pear ( Pyrus Communis L . ) under western Uttar Pradesh Conditions

Abstract

Thesis title: “Studies on suitable propagation technique in pear (Pyrus Communis L.) under western U.P. conditions” The present investigation entitled “Studies on suitable propagation technique in pear (Pyrus Communis L.) under Western U.P. conditions” was carried out at Horticulture Research Center (HRC) of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut during summer season 2022-23. The objectives of the study were to get information on identify best timing and best propagation method in pear. Tongue grafting was found to be most superior in terms of the percent success at 70 days (%), scion diameter (cm) of cutting and grafting, rootstock diameter (cm) of cutting and grafting, number of branches, leaf area, survival % than air layering in terms of the days to bud intake, number of branches, plant height, number of primary roots and number of secondary roots. Tongue grafting and hard wood cutting best performed during February and air layering in the month of July. Based on results obtained in the present study, it can be concluded that tongue grafting performed during February was found to be the most appropriate propagation technique in pear under sub-tropical conditions of Western Uttar Pradesh. Therefore, the Tongue grafting can be adopted with great success in pear for propagating plants on commercial scale in Western Uttar Pradesh.
