Effect of Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) on the Growth Performance and Conformation Traits in Broiler

Abstract

In the present investigation "Effect of turmeric on the growth performance and conformation traits in broiler" was studies. In this study 48, chick (DOC) of Cobb- 400 strain was taken and divided into four equal groups, each were fed different diets. Body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and shank length, keel bone, hock circumference were measured. Average body weight gain of broiler chicks during 0-1 weeks of age for the group Th T2, T3, and T4 was found 93.58 ± 0.578, 101.75 ± 1.143, 99.66 ± 0.512 and 100.58 ± 0.621 gm respectively. Overall average weight gain for T1, T2, T3, and T4 was 98.89 ± 0.713 gm, during first weeks of age. Average body weight gain of broiler chicks up to 6 week of age for the group fed diet T1, T2, T3 and T4 was found 1682.40 ± 2.760, 1861.25 ± 0.864, 1743.22 ± 5.182 and 1712.15 ± 5.325 gm, respectively. Overall average body weight gains for T1, T2, T3 and T4 were 1749.75 gm. during 1-6 week of age. Average feed consumption of broiler chicks up to 6 week of age for the group fed diet T1, T2, T3 and T4 was found 3636.31 ± 4.489, 3468.57 ± 3.122, 3355.30 ±0.977 and 3238.23 ± 1.252 gm, respectively. Overall average feed consumption for T1, T2, T3 and T4 was 3424.60 ± 2.46 gm, during 1-6 week of age. Accumulative feed conversion ratio (FCR) in broiler chicks up to 6 week of age for the group fed diet Tt, T2, T3 , and T4 was found 2.22 ± 0.056, 1.83 ± 0.031, 1.91 ± 0.010 and 1.90 ± 0.012 respectively. Feed conversion ratio ranged from 1.83 to 2.22. Overall ave~age feed conversion ratio was 1.96 ± 0.012 up to 6 week of age. At the age of 6 week average shank length, keel bon~ length and hock circumference of broiler fed diet Tt, T2, T3 and T4was found 72.58 ± 0.504, 82.25 ± 0.612, 78.58 ± 0.752 and 69.41 ± 0.411 mm ; 98.66 ± 0.677, 105.16 ± 0.333, 103.08 ± 0.561 and 95.75 ± 0.440 mm; 76.08 ± 0.579, 83.66 ± 0.682 , 81.66 ± 0.791 and 73.75 ± 0.408 mm , respectively. Overall averages and length, keel bone length and hock circumference was 75.705 ± 0.569, 100.66 ± 0.502 and 78.787 ± 0.615 mm, respectively. It may be concluded that use of 0.5% turmeric powder will be helpful for higher body weight gain with low feed consumption.
