| dc.description.abstract | A field experiment was conducted in during Rabi season 2011-12 on sandy loa1n soil at Crop Research Centre, Chirauri of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut (U.P.). The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with three replications comperising ten treatments of weed management were (T1) weedy, (T2) weed-free, (T3) Sulfosulfuron @25g ai ha-1, (T4) 2,4-D @ 0.5 kg ai ha-1 , (Ts) Phenoxy prop @120 g ai ha-1 , (T6) Clodinofop propazil @ 60 g ai ha-1 , (T1) Metsulfuron methyl@ 6g ai ha-t, (T8) Pendimethalin @1.0 kg ai ha-1 , (T 9) Total (Sulfosulfuron+Metsulfuron) @ 32 g ai ha-1 and (T10) Isoprotuom @ 0.75 kg ai ha- 1 • The soil of experimental site was low in organic carbon and nitrogen and medium in available phosphorus and available potassium and alkaline in reaction. The findings of present study revealed that chemical methods of weed control significantly reduced the weed density and dry weight of weeds effectively over weedy check. Among the weed management treatments, the maximum plant height, number of tillers, dry matter accumulation and yield attributes viz. number of spikes~ spikelets/spike, spike length, number of grains/spike, 1 000-grain weight, grain ( 44.96 q ha-1) and straw (63.80 q ha-1) yield was observed with the application of total @ 32 g ai ha-1 and established its superiority over rest of the herbicides. Similarly, this treattnent also resulted into higher weed control efficiency, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium uptake by crop, net return and benefit:cost ratio. These values 'vere very close to weed-free treatment. The percent increase in grain and stra\v yield \vas 57.42 and 41.90, respectively over weedy check. | |
