The present investigation on "Studies on bio-ecology and management of shoot and frUit borer, Leucmodes orbonahs Guen. on bnnjal." was carried out from July, 2005 to January, 2006 and July, 2006 to January, -2007 The two experiment v1z ,was management of L. orbonaf1s on brinjal var. "Pusa Uttam· and lab bio-assay were laid out in R B D separately at Crop Research Centre and Bio-controllaboratory, S V. B Patel University of Agnculture & Technology, Meerut, U.P The management expenments hav1ng n~ne and lab bioassay having eight treatments replicated thrice Twenty two arthropods were recorded at different stages of crop growth. The populatron cf arthropods v1as recorded 1n 30111 SW to 02"" SW during both the years of observat1on The larval1nc1dence of L. orbonafis was frrst time recorded in 351 ~ SW dunng both the years The max. and min. temperature exhibited significantly pos11ive Impact 1n population bUild up of larvae. The brinjal shoot and fruit borer, L. orbonalis comes under the order Lepidoptera where complete metamorphosis in their hfe cycle has been reported, wh1ch comprised of four stages, viz , egg. larva, pupa and adult Fecundrty of female showed the eggs were generally la1d srngly or m batches of 2-4 The fcma!e lay eggs ranged from 40-210 with on an average of 150. larval period of L orbonalis was on an average of 17.66 days (ranged 15-20 days) and there were 5 larval1nstars The pupal penod of the insect was lasts for on an average 9 days (ranged 7 to 11 days). Longev1ty of male moth was found 2 .67 days (ranged 2·3 days). wh1le 1n female moth surv1val on an average 3.67 days (ranged 2-5 days) It completed their life cycle in 32.33 days (ranged 27-37 days) under laboratory. Removal and destruction of 1nfested twigs/fru1ts and fallen leaves twice 1n a week + Bt @ 0 5 kg/ha showed m1n1mum infestation of shoots and frUits and produced maximum healthy fruits followed by removal and destruction of infested tw1gslfru1ts and fallen leaves twice in a week + Neem gold and imidacloprid. Maximum C 8 rat1o (1: 36.66) was found with cypermethrin, while NSKE @ 5% (1: -0.86) exh1blted resulted negative return per rupee invested. Trichocard, neem based pesllc1des and biopesllcides were found safer for natural enem1es (coccmellids, bracomd wasps and spiders) than synthetic Insecticides Except severe winter months, L orbona/is moths trapped through out the crop period. The maximum of 19.33 moths/trap was recorded 1n 43"' SW dunng 2005-06 and same moth per trap was also observed 1n 44th SW dunng 2006-07 S1gn1ficant positive coefficient of correlation has been recorded between moth trapped w1th max1mum, mimmum and average temperature during both the years lm1dacloprid 17.8 SL@ 0.01% was found more toxic against 3'd instar larvae of L. orbonalts and resulted 100% larval mortality at 3"' days after treatments followed by cypermethrin 10 EC@ 0 01% and endosulfan 35 EC@ 0.05% in lab b•oassay.
