Efficacy of Insecticides Against Diamondback Moth (Plutella Xylostella Linn.) in Cabbage (Brassica Oleracea Linn.)

Abstract
The field experiment entitled “Efficacy of insecticides against Diamondback
Moth (Plutella xylostella Linn.) in cabbage (Brassica oleracea Linn.)” was conducted
in Randomized Block Design with three replications and seven treatments during Rabi
season, 2020-2021 at Crop Research Centre, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of
Agriculture and Technology, Meerut (U.P.) 250110. During the trial the larval
population of diamondback moth was recorded from November to February (2020-
2021) in all plots. The larval population of DMB reached its peak (7.33 larvae/ 5 plant)
at last week of January 2021, (4th standard week) when, the maximum and minimum
temperature were 18.8 ℃ and 6.46 °C, respectively with 73.64 per cent relative
humidity and 0.0 mm rainfall. The correlation study between the larval population of
diamondback moth and weather parameters showed a negative correlation with
maximum and minimum temperature (r = -0.847 and -0.664), and positive a association
with relative humidity (r = 0.818), and rainfall (r = 0.161). Among all the insecticides
Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC @ 10g a.i./ ha was most effective in controlling larval
population of DMB followed by Spinosad 2.5% SC @ 16g a.i./ ha, Emamectin
Benzoate 5% SG 8.75g a.i./ ha, Flubendiamide 39.35 % SC @ 18.24 a.i./ ha, Indoxacarb
14.5% SC @ 35 g/ ha in both the sprays. The Novaluron 10 EC @ 75 g a.i./ ha was
found to be least effective, but it was significantly superior over the Untreated plot.
Among all insectides the maximum C:B ratio and yield is obtained in plot treated with
Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC @ 10g a.i./ ha preceded by Flubendiamide 39.35 % SC
@ 18.24 a.i/ ha with second-best C: B ratio and second highest yield in the plot treated
with Spinosad 2.5% SC @ 16 g /ha and Novaluron 10 EC @ 75 g/ ha has the lowest
C:B ratio and yield.
