Study on Feeding Practices of Dairy Cattles in Shamli District of Utter Pradesh

Abstract
The present investigation was conducted to study the feeding practices of dairy
cattle in three blocks of Shamli district of Utter Pradesh. A total number of respondents
were personally interviewed. It was pbserved that 34.44 percent cattle keepers were
secondary level educate and 46.66 percent of old age group (>50year). The sugarcane
tops mix with Berseem was main fodder crop ~om October to May months in this region.
Wheat straw w~re used by 31.11 percent respondents fed to their animal mixed with
other green fodders or concentrate followed by Jawer, l(arbi, Barseem and Lobia as
27.77, 3.33, 2.22 and 2.22 percent respectively. Whereas 96.66 and 88.88 percent
respond~nts fed common salt and mineral mixture. 58.88 percent cattle keepers fed
. during advance pregnancy stage. Regarding the quantity of concentrate feeding it was
57.77 percent feed 1-2Kg concentrate per day . . When the study about adoption of
recommended feeding practices the cow keepers providing the clean and fresh water
which have score(180) first rank of feeding and lowest score and grazing we are found
only score (17) lOth ranks, followed 172,103,98,96,102,97,69 and 47 score occupied the · ,
ranks second, third, fourth, fifth, six,seven,eight and nine ranks respectively.
