Abstract

The present investigation entitled "Effect of time of defoliation of scion stick and grafting on the .performance of veneer grafting in mango (Mangifera indica L.)", was conducted at Horticultural Research centre of the University during 2014-15 under subtropical climatic conditions of western Uttar Pradesh. The experiment was conducted using Amrapali as a scion cultivar in a Randomized Block Design with five treatments and four replications. The finding of present investigation revealed that the veneer grafting performed in August after using 9 days old defoliated scion stick had resulted in earliest sprouting and maximum survival, vegetative growth, saleable plant per cent, root growth and minimum mortality of grafts. The minimum survival of grafts was observed with grafting performed in September of the using 7 days old defoliated scion stick. So it may be concluded from the result of present study that veneer grafting should be done in the month of August with the scion stick defoliated 9 days before detachment from mother plant under subtropical climatic condition of western Uttar. Pradesh.
