Project Title: "CHARACTERIZATION OF ALTERNARIA SPECIES FROM LEAF BLIGHT SAMPLES OF WHEAT AND ITS CONTROL USING TRICHODERMA ISOLATES" 06 leaf samples of wheat were taken from SVPUAT Meerut locations for the current investigation. Isolation of Alternaria was carried out on PDA media and three isolates were cultured- L2TI+, L2T2 and L2T2+. Three distinct species of Trichoderma isolates- P3Tl, P3T2 and PI Tl. All of the acquired isolates were examined under a microscope to determine their species. All ofthe isolates were given a morphological characterization. Through the use of the dual culture teehnique, Trichoderma was tested for the biocontrol activity to prevent the growth of pathogenic Alternaria. The results indicate that all three Trichoderma isolates were able to inhibit growth of Phyto pathogenic fungi Alternaria isolate L2Tl+ The inhibition percentage was similar for isolate P3Tl and PIT! at 73.88% and 74.82% respectively, PIT! had maximum inhibition percentage at 77.40%. Next results for second isolate indicate that all three Trichoderma isolates were able to inhibit growth ofPhyto pathogenic fi.mgi Alternaria isolate L2T2. The inhibition percentage for isolate P3TI and PIT! were 72.96% and 74.40% respectively, P3T2 had maximum inhibition percentage at 776.30%. Subsequently, the results for third Alternaria isolate indicates that three Trichoderma isolates tested were able to inhibit growth of Phyto pathogenic fungi Alternaria isolate L2T2+. The inhibition percentage for isolate P3T2 and PIT! were 74.77% and 74.82% respectively, P3Tl had maximum inhibition percentage at 78.55%. Trichoderma was found to have a large inhibitory capacity to prevent the growth of Phyto-pathogen Alternaria (pathogen causing the leaf blight disease ofwheat).
