| dc.description.abstract | Thesis title An impact study of mango orchardists in Saharanpur distJict ofWesterU.P. Objectives: • To study the background characteristics of mango orchardists. • To find out the knowledge level of mango orchardists in relation to package of practices of mango production technology. • To study the adoption behaviour with respect to package of practices of mango production technology. • To study the constraints of mango orchardists and suggest suitable measures for improvement. The present study was conducted in Saharanpur district of western Uttar Pradesh during the year 2010-11. District Saharanpur was selected purposively because the area under mango cultivation is more in the district in comparison to other district of this region. There are 11 blocks in Saharanpur district out of which two blocks namely Nakur and Blykhadi were purposively selected. From each block four villages were purposively selected. The total numbers of villages were 8 for this investigation. Ten respondents from each village were selected purposively. Thus the total sample size was of the 80 respondents for the investigation. To know the back ground characteristics, knowledge level, adoption level, and constraints of the mango orchardists. Most of the orchardists were backward caste, they belonging to 30 - 45 years age group, their education level up to intermediate. They were living jointly with large family. Most of the orchardists were having puccka house, medium farm assets (5-9), their land holding size 1-2 hectare. They were using medium (8-15) communication sources. Maximum mango orchardists were using two types of irrigation facilities; their annual income is Rs 1-1.5 lack. Most of the orchardists were having fully knowledge about preparation of layout of orchard, selection of varieties of trees, planting distance in orchard, fertilizers and manure application in orchard. Most of the mango orchardists were found to have fully knowledge about water management in orchard, diseases management, pest management, grading, packing and Mandy Samite for marketing of fruits. Most of the mango orchardists were fully adopted square method of layout for planting of orchard, Dashari, Langra and Chousa varieties for plantation in mango orchard, fertilizers and manures application in orchard. I 00 per cent mango orchardists were fully adopted wettable sulpher, 97.5 per cent kerathine and hexaconazal for disease control in mango orchard. Maximum orchardists were fully adopted monocrotophos, endosulphon and imidachlorpid for pest management in orchard. Most of the mango orchardists were fully adopted the grading and packing practices in post harvesting technology and 1 00 per cent mango orchardists were fully adopted Mandy Samite for marketing of fruits. The major problems of mango orchardists were un availability of government loan for mango production, it was rank in 151 • No fixed price decided by the government for mango produce, it was ranked in nnd . Lack of awareness regarding improved mango cultivation technologies, it was ranked in m.rd. Lack of confidence about the new practices, it was ranked in IVth other problems were lack of availability of specific training to mango orchardists, lack of knowledge about processing method, poor availability of information technology, high cost of transport facilities, lack of knowledge about correct time & method of harvesting, lack of knowledge about marketing system, lack of availability of improved verities plant at proper time, important tools are not easily available, lack of availability of scientists support at proper time, lack of storage facilities for some time, poor marketing channel and short life of ripen fruits. | |
