Abstract
The investigation entitled “Morpho-molecular characterization and biochemical
evaluation of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) genotype”. 15 okra genotypes were
evaluated for molecular characterization and bio chemical evaluation and yield related
traits with randomize block design (RBD) with three replication during kharif 2017. On
morphological, molecular and biochemical evaluation on okra genotype. Observation
were recorded on various characters viz., Days to flowering, Plant height (cm), Number
of branches per plant, Length of fruit (cm), width of fruit (cm), Number of fruit per plant,
Yield per plant (gm.)
Maximum days to flowering was recorded in IC 90134. (48.7 days), highest plant
height was registered for IC 34190. (117.20cm). Higher fruit length was recorded for IC
18544. (16.1cm), the maximum number of branches per plant (3.9) was recorded in IC
90242. The highest fruit width (2.2 cm) was recorded in IC18544. Maximum number of
fruits per plant was recorded in IC 42456. (13.8). Whereas maximum fruit yield per plant
was recorded in IC 33345 (111.4g). In the present study 10 RAPD primers were used by
which a total of 15 polymorphic bands were obtained with an average of 2.8 bands per
primer showing 100% polymorphism. Primer (OR-1) showed maximum value of PIC
(0.87). Maximum RP showed by primer OR-9 (1.8). Cluster analysis based on untended
paired group method of arithmetic means 15 okra genotypes were clustered into two main
group like Group I and Group II, the minimum similarity exhibited by genotype IC 90096
and IC 90201 and the maximum similarity was shown by genotype IC 42456 with IC
42472. Among the studied varieties the proline content is present in significant amount in
the leaf of okra varieties. The maximum proline content was in IC18546 genotype.
